Fewer sheep as wool prices down but meat up Wool used to account for more than a quarter of New Zealand's export earnings – now it is less than 2 percent. But lamb, hogget and mutton are earning nearly $3 billion dollars a year for the country.

The latest issue of Statistics New Zealand's Price Index News has just been released, charting the prices and volumes of sheepmeat and wool dating back to the 1920s. It's available below on the Statistics NZ website.
